In this study, we report 2 cases of urinary tract infection by Aerococcus sanguinicola. urinae, previously known as Aerococcus-like organism, is an uncommon pathogen. Previous reports from European coun-tries indicate that it is associated with UTI (4), bacteremia (3), sepsis (2), and potentially fatal endocarditis (2, 7, 10, 13). The main features of our two cases and previously reported cases cases of 4. Elderly patients with underlying urological disease have a greater risk of urinary tract infections due to uncommon pathogens.

p.22-27. Mark; Abstract Aerococci have often been misidentified as streptococci in microbiology laboratories, leading to an underestimation of these bacteria as causes of human infections. Member of the bacterial genus Aerococcus and is a Gram-positive, catalase-negative coccus growing in clusters. Defined in 2001 and has since then been increasingly recognized as a pathogen causing urinary tract infections and also invasive infections including infective endocarditis. SECTION II - HAZARD IDENTIFICATION. PATHOGENICITY/TOXICITY: A. urinae and A. sanguinicola have been implicated as urinary tract pathogens in patients predisposed to infection such as immunocompromised patients, and elderly men with urinary tract pathologies.

Aerococcus urinae can, in older males with underlying urinary tract conditions, cause invasive infections such as urosepsis or infective endocarditis. The prognosis of invasive aerococcal infections appears to be relatively favourable despite the old age of patients and their many comorbidities. A 4‐month' survey revealed 29 patients suspected of urinary tract infection (UTI), from whom an Aerococcus‐like organism (ALO) was isolated in significant numbers from urinary tract specimens and singly in 11 cases. Approximately 0.8% of all urinary tract specimens examined during the period yielded growth of ALO. This study looked at different treatments for urinary tract infections (UTIs – infection of the urethra or bladder) caused by aerococcus bacteria.

The disease caused by Aerococcus has been underestimated, but mass spectrometry could be a simple method for identifying this pathogen. In this study, we report 2 cases of urinary tract infection by Aerococcus sanguinicola. A descriptive clinical-microbiological study was conducted on the presence of A. sanguinicola causing urinary tract infections. In this study, we report 2 cases of urinary tract infection by Aerococcus sanguinicola.

Aerococcus sanguinicola urinary tract infection

Thirty-one of 46 patients with A. sanguinicola and 45 of 57 patients with A. urinae isolated from the urine had a clinical diagnosis of urinary tract infection. One subject had A. sanguinicola isolated from blood cultures. A. sanguinicola and A. urinae had low ceftriaxone, penicillin, and vancomycin MICs. It is a rare cause of infections in humans, but cases of urinary tract infection (UTI), bacteraemia, endocarditis and meningitis have been reported . A . urinae and A. sanguinicola are described as pathogens in UTI in patients predisposed to infection ( 13 , 14 , 15 , 24 , 28 , 34 , 54 , 68 ) and are also agents of bacteremia/septicaemia as well as infective endocarditis ( 5 , 10 , 20 , 21 , 24 , 34 , 37 , 61 , 67 ).

More rarely cases of bacteremia/septicemia and infective endocarditis have been reported. Treatment options are therefore important. 2010-09-01 2011-08-01 Aerococcus sanguinicola is a member of the bacterial genus Aerococcus and is a Gram-positive, catalase-negative coccus growing in clusters. This species was defined in 2001 and has since then been increasingly recognized as a pathogen causing urinary tract infections and also invasive infections including infective endocarditis. MICs to erythromycin and levofloxacin were ≥0.5 and >4 μg/mL in 41% and 78% of A. sanguinicola and 17% and 23% of A. urinae isolates, respectively. Aerococcus sanguinicola and Aerococcus urinae are emerging pathogens in clinical settings mostly being causative agents of urinary tract infections (UTIs), urogenic sepsis and more seldomly Species belonging to the Aerococcus genus are isolated from the urine and blood of elderly patients suffering from urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, the clinical significance, phenotypic features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of these underestimated and/or misidentified species remain unclear.

Mostly known to cause urinary tract infection, it can cause bacteremia leading to severe urosepsis and infective endocarditis. Embolization is frequently reported with Aerococcus urinae … Aerococcus urinae (A. urinae) isanewcomer to clinical and microbiological practice. This bacterium is mainly associated with urinary tract infections (UTI) especially in elderly patients with predisposing conditions. A. urinae naturally is isolated from dust, air, vegetation, and hospital environments.
